M’Illumino di meno Caterpillar – RAI 2 ITALY

The 15th of February 2013 all the schools of the Istituto Comprensivo of Castelmassa participated at “M’Illumino di meno”: an initiative by RAI 2 radio- Italy.

During the day we turned off the lights for one hour, lit candles in the classrooms and on the windows, while the teachers of the primary schools were telling a fairy tale called “Remember to turn off the light”.

We stopped also the photocopying and computers.

Don’t worry the guardian of the light controlled the situation!

In the evening the towns have lowered public lighting and at home the families dined by candlelight.

a good behaviour: far from the heater, lights off, thesun lightens the classroom.

a bad behaviour: next to the heater, the shutters closed because the sunlight prevents students from seeing from the blackboard, lights on

This week is Climate Week in School

We visited Gnoll Park to investigate and find good and bad carbon footprints.
We had lots of fun finding evidence using our iPads and marking on our maps using smiley faces and sad faces to show this.

We have lots of waste disposal bins in the Gnoll Park. We like to keep the floor clean and tidy!

Unfortunately, we found some litter buried amongst some leaves :-( This made us really unhappy.

Luckily, we searched really hard in our groups and we eventually found some fresh water :-)

We are flying the green flag in Wales!!!! We are eco-friendly!!!!

One hour without electricity in Spain

The 15th february, San José school was an hour from 12 to 13h without light to be awareness of the importance of energetic saving. We switched off everything: lights, computers, interactive boards, CD players... Althought here in Murcia we have a wonderful bright sun and we could work without lights, we couldn't do some other activities, for example our boss of studies Rosario and our secretary Cati who normally work with the computer, could't make their Job!!! Our students couldnt use the digital books. During this hour teachers and students were speaking about the environment and energy.

One hour without electricity in Germany

As an activity of our Comenius project we switched off all our technicals equipments in school for 1 hour on the 15th of February 2013. During our third lesson nobody used lights, CD players, computers, SMART Boards etc.

In class 3 pupils created brightly-coloured paintings.

Luckely we had just enough day light in our classroom. But in school corridors it was dark.

We also turned the computers and our SMART Board off.

EARTH HOUR IN FINLAND 15.2.2013

On the 15th of February 2013 pupils and teachers in Finland switched off the lights at school for 1 hour. Here are their impressions:

Here are our Sports Young Ambassadors. They helped top raise awareness of the UNICEF day in our school. They helped our school to raise money for the charity and to organise our UNICEF walk. :-)

A walk for Sambia

Due to the fact that our school has a partner school in Africa we decided to have a sponsored walk for our partner school in Sambia. In April 2012 the event took place. Our pupils gave their best and in the end we collected 4610 €!

We collected € 900,00
Partecipants: 5 primary schools
We contacted the delegate of our province: the president: Silvana and a delegate: Alberta.
They gave us some balloons, stickers and the address to send money to UNICEF to Rome.
